REGULAR EVENTS

These are regular paddles, usually weekly, offered by the Club's most dedicated Trip Leaders. You will need to register interest  to join these trips.  Registration of interest does not guarantee a place on the paddle.  The leader has the discretion to select paddlers to suit conditions and the trip plan. Non-members can join the Club here.

The "Sunday in the Soup" training paddle is semi-regular.  Times and duration will vary.  Duration is a minimum of 3 hours extending up to whole day trips.

A goal is to provide the opportunity to develop and maintain skills for handling open sea conditions while building on paddling fitness and having fun!

The launch location will be generally around the Sutherland Shire with a possible special trips along the spectacular Illawarra coast.

    About you

You should be able to paddle about 20km in open sea conditions, paddle for an hour at a sustained 6km plus per hour over an hour duration and be confident you can get back into your sea kayak from deep water in the event of an assisted rescue.

All participants should be ready to demonstrate an immersion, rescue-based skill regardless of formal club grading. In regards to equipment, as close to grade 3 as you can get it.

Come prepared to be self-sufficient and contribute to group safety (for example, VHF Radio if you have one). What you need for the day will depend on the expected forecast. Pack your daily gear with appropriate dry storage, accessible water and snacks.  As the intention is to be very wet at some stage, a windproof layer is recommended.

Morning launch times may be early to reduce car parking issues.   Current scheduled session times are listed on the left.

To be placed on the invitation list, "Register" via this event.

Contact the Megan if you have any questions.

About the Trip: Established in 2010 with a focus on keeping kayaking fun, the Saturday group launches from the eastern side of Sydney Harbour or the foreshore of Botany Bay, or Port Hacking, and occasionally further afield.

The paddle combines socialising, keeping fit, building skills in a safe and supportive environment, and enjoying each other's company as well as the natural beauty of Sydney's Harbours and coastline.

The exact mix of what we do and where we go depends on the weather and conditions on the day and the skill level of the group.

The length of the trip is around 15 kilometres with a stop for morning tea usually close to a cafe. We are finished by lunch time, but often some members of the group remain on the water to learn new skills and refine old ones. For those who like to stay on later, we often go for lunch at a nearby eatery, or sometimes have a picnic in the park.

(If you haven't been signed off for your Grade 1 "wet exit" and "swim", let me know and I can organise this.)

To register your interest, please do not register through the club's online booking system, but contact me direct: Sharon Betteridge (PA qualified Sea Leader and Enclosed Sea Instructor) either by email merceridge5 [at] bigpond.com or phone 0407 247 263.

About the Trip: The Friday Group is well established, having started in Jan 2009.  Please note that it was also known for some time as "oandora". It meets weekly at a Sydney Northside venue at 8am for 8.30am start. Finish time may vary to suit conditions and participants on the day, but we are often back at around 1.15pm / 1.45pm. It is not unusual, particularly in nice weather, for the keener folk to hang around for skills/ rolling practice.

Paddling distance varies but is generally in the region of 15km to 20 km, vith a coffee break.

We may also have periodic "extra" paddles (maybe of longer distance),  at other times of the week / weekend.

Usual venues are Clontarf, Little Manly (out the Heads and around to Shelley Beach is usually good) and Freshwater (smallish surf). Other venues (generally for "extras") may include:- Fishermans Beach Collaroy, Basin Beach Mona Vale, Palm Beach, Umina.

Although most outings are destination based, we do have an emphasis on skills development and enjoyment.

Your Trip Leader is Owen Kimberley. Please e-mail Owen to join to this group at okimberley (at) bigpond.com   Please replace "(at)"  with "@" when you are e-mailing.

About the Trip: This is a trip for those who like kayaking in the sea and who enjoy coffee breaks with cake.

Please join me and Nicci (on days that she can escape work) to paddle up or down the beautiful Sydney coastline from Little Manly.

Typical trips would be 15 to 20 kms and may be north to Shelly Beach, south to Diamond Bay, or to a harbour beach if it is not considered safe for the group to go out the heads.

Requirements for this paddle are that:

    • you are happy to paddle as part of a team (taking on a safety role consistent with your skill/experience level);

    • you bring a cake on your birthday

Please email Bill directly to express your interest in being placed on an invitation list billraffle1(at)gmail.com (replace (at) with @). For those who are not known to Bill, in your email to him would you please provide details of your recent paddling experience, and the names of any leaders in the club or other Tuesday paddlers that you have kayaked with.
