A full-day training session designed for those wanting to be assessed for Paddle Australia’s Sea Skills award (a prerequisite for NSWSK Club’s Grade 3) or for those who want to get an idea of the standards expected to gain the award.
We will be reviewing the major skills including boat control, surfing skills, rescues, towing and rolling. A plotting exercise will be included if time permits.
We’ll provide instructional tips when the opportunity arises and at the end of the session advise each participant of the areas we think more work is needed before being ready for assessment.
The Club’s calendar currently has future Sea Skills-focussed training sessions and there will be further training opportunities at R’nR in March and beyond.
Kayaks and kit to the Club’s Grade 3 standard (refer page 5 of the Club’s logbook). Helmets will be required at various stages of the session (loan helmets available if needed). Please bring a paddle float if you have one. Ditto a compass for the plotting exercise.
Bring your food and water for the day as it is possible that all land breaks during the session will be at isolated locations. Consider sports additives to your water.
Your instructors will be Stuart Trueman and Adrian Clayton.
