16 June Addendum

Looking like a 3 day trip, leaving Saturday morning 21 June and returning Monday 23 June, with Sunday to explore Broughton by sea and land.

As several people live in Fingal Bay or Nelson Bay, we are planning on starting and finishing at Fingal Bay.  (Accommodation options may be available in Fingal Bay for those wishing to stay Friday night).

Previous trip description for the "hard" sea kayaking types (modified)

It's going to be cold, damp, midwinter and a bloody long way out to Broughton Island (around 20km).  Once there we'll be camping, eating dehydrated food or a fish that may have jumped onto the kayak on the way and sleeping on a hard wooden platform, probably next to somebody who snores.

You will need a tent, sleeping bag, food for the whole trip (no shops on Broughton), cooking gear, fresh water (there is a creek near the beach with fresh water) and heaps of warm clothing for Saturday night because it will be freezing.  On Sunday, we will paddle around the island and explore Mt Pinkerton Providence Beach and Coal Shaft Bay.  Monday will be a leisurely paddle back to Fingal Bay (20km).   Paul Thomas will be the trip leader.

This is classic sea kayaking with an open sea crossing out to Broughton and if you are looking for a cold, wet weekend away, then sign up and make sure you tick the box for the legal waiver.  Oh, and don't forget to bring a helmet to protect your head if we go through Cons Cleft and into the caves.  A camera could be handy too if we see any whales, but that is pretty unlikely at this time of year.  We never see whales!
